This room houses the greatest mystery left from the Kotchoubey family: the corner fireplace lined with ceramic tiles and a set of allegorical and heraldic elements, probably inspired by some Western European prototype. To this day our researchers try to decipher the meaning of the inscriptions.
The bottom of the fireplace is framed by the ceramic relief images of Adam and Eve. The very top depicts a pelican in her piety – tearing its chest open to feed her children – a Christian symbol of selfless parental love. As to the number «1653» and the letters «IHBR» — there are only theories.
The fireplace floor plate is seemingly much older than the rest of the mansion, and even the town itself. It depicts a symmetrical composition with a pelican and the date in Gothic numerals "1538". Such stones were commonly placed on tombs and crypts.
