ARISTOGRAPHICS
(1918–1924)
iakov chernikhov
«It is established with certainty that the selection of colours and their tone combinations can fully correspond to musical sound sensations. The tones and colours in full cooperation with each other create the musical harmony of graphical drawings».
Aristographics (from a Greek word aristo — the most beautiful and elegant) which was a follow-up for Exprimatics* but treated problems of compositional design of colors.

"Both Exprimatics and Aristographics have to do mostly with 'abstract' images and convey objects in conventional forms using widely all forms of abstraction and simplification of drawing."

Aristographics uses not only purely graphical but also luminous and colorific forms which act as "a mean of intensification of various peculiarities of composition, design or form." Space is depicted by means of combination and new interrelations between colors and tone. With that "spatial compositions in Aristographics are brought to maximum of their expression."

"It is determined that matching of colors and tones can fully coincide with musical sound impressions. The relief of the image is best revealed by means of tonal variation of colors. Best combinations of tone and color create musical harmonies of graphical 'design' which we use to bring along superior and best understanding of art in a human being."

*The author explained that this term is a derivation of French verb "exprimer" and means the best way of expression.
