CONSTRUCTION OF ARCHITECTURAL AND MACHINE FORMS
(1927–1931)

«Feelings provoked by adequately designed structures are similar to feelings when looking at objects of high artistic value»
Today's factory buildings must meet production principles of the epoch. Influenced by the functionality typical for the machine, new style in architecture inherits laconism, pragmatism, simplicity, and preciseness of engaged forms. Machine is not a dead mechanical construction for the specific function, but something all-sufficient and, to a certain extent, not an outsider to the art.

"Consonance of forms through harmonic combination produces a 'melody'. Structure produces a special form by combining individual components. Feelings provoked by adequately designed structures are similar to feelings when looking at objects of high artistic value. Beauty hidden in perfect structures becomes a manifest due to the direct effect which is produced by man-made objects. This is equally true both for constructions and machines. A human being is affected by entire combination of elements presented in a specific scale.

The melody of grand (aspiring) constructive combination of parts affects us, in most cases, due to the fact that the overall mass of grouped elements is interrelated by the compact constructive junction. Certain engines and machines strongly impress with the power of such aspiration; such impression is accounted for by our conviction that their design combination is rational. And not without reason the noise produced by machines sounds as the 'music of time' to many. Combination of real splendor and aspiration in man-made creation supported by functional movement produces a certain melody different from other constructive melodies."
